Samba Pa Ti

Your most intimate memory of him is not what he has done, but what he has seen. He tries to hide the smile behind his words when he confesses he saw you. He didn't mean to, he just came through the door and was in the process of removing his shoes. The hallway was dark, and he heard music coming from the living room.

He kisses you on the lips when your face turns red and your pulse rises, covering your face with warm hands. You were dancing with the dog. He laughs, You were listening to Santana, weren't you? Yes, I was. He takes half a step closer and takes one of your hands while the other wraps itself around your back. Suddenly, you're waltzing around the room and he's making up ridiculous, nonsensical words to the music and you're laughing. When he asks where your previous dancing partner is, you call her name and the little girl comes trotting from the kitchen, her short tail wagging in excitement. You pick her up and the the family baby is between you two, blowing all the air kisses in the world.

Guess what, he says to her, I saw you dancing with Mummy when I came home! Yes- yes I did! You smile when he takes her from your arms and kisses her on the nose. Balancing her in the crook of one arm, he reaches out with the other and before you know it, the three of you are dancing in the middle of the living room, under the lights, listening to the sounds of Abraxas.
